Observer's Report -- May 18th, 2020
Annie Yang | May 18, 2020

Categories: Astronomy.

Time: 3:30-4:30 (approx 1 hr session)

Targets: Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars

Eyepiece used: 26,15,9.7,6.4mm (Meades)

Tried out new Meade eyepieces. Worked well with 26,15,9.7mm, however, it seemed the scope was not able to focus well with the 6.7mm? Could not resolve quality details.

The possible issue may be with the scope? Need to start looking into telescope maintenance and repair(look into how to do collimation). Another possibility could just be the limitation of my telescope. May need higher quality ones?

Targets:

    • Jupiter:

      • Saw all 4 moons of Jupiters. Spectacular view.

      • Could see colors and features of the planet as well

    • Saturn:

      • Able to see the ring clearly (should look closely for features on the bands next time)

      • light surface bands

    • Mars:

      • Observing with bare eyes, mars looks like an orange, dimmish, star.
      • With the scope, able to see a mixture of colors with a brown, orange and reddish color
