Consumerism: The Attack on "Less is More" Philosophy
Annie Yang | Dec. 31, 2019
Categories: Consumerism.
Personally, I believe this is a huge part of what consumerism bases its philosophy on. They promote essentially the opposite of less is more. They want you to believe as live as in if you have more things than the happier you are when happiness has nothing to do with the number of items you own. You are in charge of your own emotions. If you have the things and people that you hold dear and makes up the core of your being then you can achieve happiness with only a few items. This type of happiness takes hurdles, challenges and time to achieve as it is not nearly the same type of happiness you would get from retail therapy. This is something that would follow you and make you feel certain about your existence and bring peace to you. This is something that you would have to work for. You have to find what makes you who you are and what is truly important to you. This is something invaluable.
Personally, I have doubted my core philosophy and existence for many many times. And with all the time I spent pondering I have never found peace within. I have found those precious seconds, minutes or even hours of peacefulness not through buying things and subsequently cluttering your space but working on myself. Since September of 2019, I have worked on finding a hobby that is really for me and have found myself under the night sky. The night sky reminds of to look up to appreciate what is already there. I feel grateful for the sun, stars, planets, moons and all celestial objects for keeping me company during the warmer and colder nights. Moreover, I have read and completed three books from mid September to mid December. It may be a small achievement but it means something to me as I have not been able to finish a book for a very long time now. Anyways, I'm not a very good writer and drifted off topic but that's okay. This is my blog to document whatever thoughts that flows through my head and right now I want to express my gratitude to my loved ones. Thank you to all that loves or loved me that have accompanied me so far. I love you all.
Back to topic. Please fight consumerism with me, thanks.
