Book Review: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
Annie Yang | Sept. 13, 2019

Categories: Books. Self-Improvement.

This book explores a realistic approach to living a good life. It teaches you to be responsible for all events that occur in your life and to acknowledge that life just sucks sometimes.

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” - Albert Camus

In our generation we are expected to be exceptional and to follow our passion. All we see on the media are the exceptional and successful ones. And what is passion anyways? Growing up I have always thought that passion is an innate thing but I have learned that this is something that you work for. The perception of passion as an innate thing leads to inaction. This book proposes that it is our actions that generates passion and motivation instead of the other way around.

I have really enjoyed this book as it is filled with well thought out advice and stories that serves as examples. Thanks for reading my review. Hope your day is going well. I would like to end this review with a quote from the book:

“There is a simple realization from which all personal improvement and growth emerges. This is the realization that we, individually, are responsible for everything in our lives, no matter the external circumstances. We don’t always control what happens to us. But we always control how we interpret what happens to us, as well as how we respond. Whether we consciously recognize it or not, we are always responsible for our experiences. It’s impossible not to be. Choosing to not consciously interpret events in our lives is still an interpretation of the events of our lives. Choosing”
